The new Saleae products with analog inputs all use calibration data generated here at Saleae to display accurate AC and DC values.
This calibration data is not stored on the device. Instead, it is stored on our servers, and the software automatically downloads this calibration data as well as checks for updates when a device is connected.
Note that the delay between the digital and analog channels is now corrected with or without calibration downloaded for your device. The phase difference between the digital channels and the analog channels should be +/- 1 analog sample. We may improve this in the future.
Is periodic recalibration required?
Our devices do not require periodic recalibration.
How to check the status of your device’s calibration
- Open the latest version of the software.
- Connect the device you want to check. Wait for the software to connect to it.
- Open the preferences dialog from the main options menu -> preferences.
- Open the calibration tab
All physically connected devices will be displayed here, calibrated or not.
The device ID is the unique 64 bit ID of your device. If you have questions about your device’s calibration, please make sure to include your ID.
The Calibration type is either “DC only” or “DC and frequency response”.
“DC Only” is obsolete. If you see this listed, please contact support.
“DC and frequency response” indicates that the DC voltages will be correct, the frequency response will be flat with a smooth falloff at the bandwidth for any particular sample rate.
The calibration date is the last time the captures created from your device were processed to produce the calibration data sets – as you may notice, this date can be after your product arrived. That’s just because whenever we make a change to the calibration constant generation code, we have to re-process the captures we took from every device we’ve ever shipped!
The last updated date is the date we uploaded your file to the web. It’s also how our software determines if there is a newer calibration file for your device available.
Minimum software version required. If we add more features to the calibration system, we will have to release new versions of the software to support them. When this happens, we will release new cal files that can only be used with later versions of the software. Please keep your software up to date!
How to transfer calibration to a new computer without internet access
In order to take advantage of device calibration, the software will need a copy of that devices’ *.cal file. This file needs to be placed in the software’s calibration folder.
On Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Saleae LLC\Logic\Calibration

First option: Transfer the calibration file from a computer with internet to one without.
- Install the latest Logic software on a machine with internet access.
- Connect the device and launch the software.
- Wait for the device to fully connect to the software
- Check preferences dialog to be sure that the calibration data is loaded.
- Close Software
- Copy all *.cal files from calibration folder of that computer to the computer without internet access.
Each *.cal file is specific to a single device, but the *.cal files are saved with the device ID in decimal and not in hex, making it hard to tell which is which. If only one device has ever been connected, then there will only be one *.cal file.
Second option: Email support.
If you send us your device ID, we can send you your device’s *.cal file. Please note that if you’re connected to the internet but the calibration file hasn’t downloaded automatically, it is most likely because the calibration for your device hasn’t been finished yet.
NOTE: If your device still doesn’t have calibration data and you're running the 1.1.31 beta software, please contact support, and we can make sure your calibration data gets updated.
Note for Logic and Logic 16 (first generation):
The original Saleae Logic and Saleae Logic 16 devices do not require any form of calibration.
